You can't ile suits in the Hague! But in some cases you cold file sit against say someone in the EU for infringement in the US.

But I agree it doesn't matter that much and frankly I feel that with all the work done over he Web that the fee is too high today.

you just contradicted yourself... the truth is that people can indeed file lawsuits in the hague, period.

bottom line, the o.p. needs advice that is specific to his country, not what we do in america.

OH really? But it doesn't matter its the Hague Treaty not the Court; my bad.

For most countries there are detailed differences but they are pretty much same same until it comes time to file suit. If anyone can afford i anymore. Then its way different.

you don't know what it costs to file copyright infringment lawsuits in england.

so the bottom line still remains; the o.p. needs to ignore what americans say about copyright, and strictly adhere to the laws of his own country.

Well you don't get it. The copyright laws are the same with really minor exceptions (like how many copies of a pirated work are needed to constitute a criminal offense); but I agree that the rules for suing as well as costs are very different. BTW if someone in the UK infringes your copyright you can sue in US courts. But that goes both ways, if you infringe a UK or Italian copyright they can sue in their courts.

you aren't paying attention.

the case law is non-applicable between different countries.

you can't quote case law in england, when you are working on a case in america.

the o.p. needs to ignore what americans say about copyright, and strictly adhere to the laws of his own country.

and btw, exactly how did you plan to legally serve someone in england, much less collect if you did win.

Copyright law is NOT case law! By Treaty it is the same in most countries. Yes case law does matter because that can determine how copyright law is applied. And I know darnd little about case law in the Us and nothing about it overseas.

As for suing in a US court I just pay the fee to have the guy served by the English court and by treaty they do it. Same for collecting. Yes its unfair for him to have to defend himself in a US court, but its equally unfair for me to have to sue in an English court.

Seems I have stirred the proverbial hornets nest here! Sorry. :-) All I was after was a web link for a decently written copyright notice to make my work look that bit more professional.

I'll leave you to your legal wrangles. :-)

Regards,

Andrew.
