I don't need anything game-related, just need an exceptionally stable, low-noise/distortion sound on stereo line out.

This is for a video/audio PC Win 7 64-bit desktop workstation, for critical audio mix. I need the cleanest output to feed my speakers.

Just a simple PCI card. 96Khz 24bit 116dB s/n as minimum specs.

?

I record an outdoor rock festival every year.
This year I took a break and just enjoyed it in the audience.
About 700 ft from stage between two buildings is the most wonderful echo.
This is indirect sound. It is not line of sight since the building blocks view of the stage. I wonder if you have any thoughts because I could put my m-audio microtrack on the building or near it to capture the echo and use my laptop to get the direct sound from the PA mixer.
So wonder if you have thoughts on this? I would hand sync in post and use it as an ambiance track. I am guessing I would have to have the microtrack against the building wall or on a window.

Hi everyone, first post. Im just starting to get into video production, and Im learning tons every day. I have a JVC GY-HM100U and my sister asked me if I could film her wedding in a couple months. Id rather not use the onboard mic of I dont need to, so Im looking into wireless lavalier mics, probably just one on the groom. Can anyone recommend a decent setup, does the JVC have a receiver that attaches to the camera itself? I dont want to spend a TON of money on this, but Im willing to spend around $600. If anyone has this camera and has the setup Im looking for, please advise. Just throw some ideas out there, Im a fast learner :) Thanks in advance.

I am in a situation where I am arguing for an analog mixer with outboard converters, both going and coming, converting to AES. The chief engineer has taken the position that this will cause "lip sync" issues with the video. My contention is that if indeed there is any delay in the audio conversion it is so small as to not matter. We have lip sync problems in the station but they are caused by video converters and processing the video.
Am I on sound footing with my reasoning?
Thanks

Any comments on the MK-319s? Someone is offering me a pair that are apparently from a fairly recent production run (i.e., vinyl zipper cases rather than older wooden boxes).

I seem to recall reading some comments about unpredictable QC, mods, etc.; nothing turns up here in a search for MK-319.

Are these worthwhile? Do they need to be modded to sound good? Are they a big gamble?

(And how do they compare with something like AKG 451s or 412s?)

I realize some of this can't be answered accurately in absentia, but is there any generalized common ground?

Multi-channel audio recording in sync with Video!

I just did some tests, and they look fantastic.

I recorded multi-channel sound (3 mono channels at this time) using RME UC as input device, via REAPER software. ...simultaneously with capturing video on the same laptop (2.5Ghz Intel i5) by SI-2K HD camera that records Cineform RAW with regular 2-channel stereo sound. (Due to the video recording software limitations, it can only capture stereo sound and not multi-channel.)

So effectively, I have just recorded a 5-channel sound in perfect sync with video.

Well, stereo channel is in sync automatically as it is the same AVI file; other 3 mono WAV files have to be sync'd.

So. Now I can actually use one of the video channels (and one of the audio channels?) to record audio slate, and still I'll have enough "clean" channels left to use for mics etc., due to this newly found multi-channel capability.

I'm thinking, I even can feed audio TC (called LTC I think?) continuously now, as constant audio slate. Then in post, apparently, it all will sync in NLE that understands audio TC.

Did not try that last part, but am very excited with the results. To me, this means extremely cheap and relatively low-maintenance TC sync between all video and sound sources.

Moreover: what prevents me from feeding same audio slate signal to one of the stereo channels of Canon 7D? or *any* other second cam that otherwise was not syncable? Bingo - everything is illumina... synchronized!

(Field tests due of course.)

Posting here first (I'm coming from the DVinfo video forum actually), as an appreciation for your forum. You guys are great.

Interesting, I noticed the shill thread started here yesterday, while a few days ago Lew Stowers contacted me and asked for a few audio clips from Juanote for his reel and new website; http://lewstowers.com

Jay was very kind and gave me some very useful tips in helping me smooth out the narrative and balancing the levels between the narrative and the soundtrack, I was also having problems in some areas where Lew's voice boomed (due to Lew not using a compressor during the VOR) over the interviews during transitions.

I ended up buying Jay's book, http://www.dplay.com/book/pgs3e/index.html , after reading it, the first thing I thought was why didn't I buy it sooner? Not only is it very informative and invaluable, it also reads very much like a production it's self, which for me, made it much more comprehensible.

Great book and investment for any film or video professional who is constantly striving to improve.

All the best.

Hi all, been a while since I posted. I'm just about to begin editing a short film but I understand I should calibrate all my equipment first of all to ensure it will all sound right and consistent. I have two genelec 1029a speakers, Jays book and a digital spl meter. Is it really as simple as getting both (or just one speaker at a time) to play a tune so the spl meter remains at 82db? (I assume 82db as my room is fairly large but is a bedroom with stuff in it) And whats the level dialogue should be around again, -20db? Thanks for the advice, Taras.
